Ultimate Broadway, With Lea Salonga, Eden Espinosa, Kevin Kern, Ria Jones, Brad Little, Debuts in Shanghai Sept. (23 Sep 2011)
Lea Salonga, Eden Espinosa, Kevin Kern, Ria Jones and Brad Little celebrate the grand opening of China's Shanghai Culture Square Theatre Sept. 23 with the musical revue Ultimate Broadway.
The special concerts, presented through Oct. 9, are directed by Paul Warwick Griffin and choreographed by Ashley Wallen. Ultimate Broadway, which includes a 43-piece orchestra, promises a musical trek from the "1950s through to the blockbusters of the 1980s and then beyond into Broadway today."
Salonga (Miss Saigon, Les Miserables), who only appears in the Sept. 23 gala opening performance, joins Espinosa (Wicked, Brooklyn), Kern (Wicked, Les Miserables), Jones (Cats, Evita) and Little (Phantom of the Opera, Jekyll & Hyde), and an ensemble of London performers including Nicholas Duncan, Callum Francis, Matt Gillett, Grace Holdstock, Joelle Dyson, Robert Knight, Lisa Mathieson, Kevin McGuire, Amy Webb and Jayde Westaby.
Bjorn Dobbelaere conducts the concerts, which have musical supervision by Stephen Brooker. Ultimate Broadway also features a 20-member local ensemble from Shanghai. The production is designed by Andrew Botha.

GWB Entertainment and Shanghai Grand Theatre ARTS Centre announce the opening show of a major new theatre in Shanghai, China - The Shanghai Culture Square Theatre - Ultimate Broadway. Built over 6 years, this glittering, multi-million dollar venue has been developed as both a producing and receiving house specializing in Musical Theatre. The grand opening will take place on September 23rd 2011.
Ultimate Broadway is a glamourous evening that will take an audience through the different eras of broadway musicals from the classic shows of the 1950's through to the blockbusters of the 1980's and then beyond into Broadway today. The concerts will star Eden Espinosa (Wicked, Brooklyn, Rent), Ria Jones (Les Miserables, Cats, Evita), Kevin Kern (Wicked, Les Miserables, Hair) and Brad Little (The Phantom Of The Opera, Jekyll and Hyde), 10 ensemble members from London (Nicholas Duncan, Callum Francis, Matt Gillett, Grace Holdstock, Joelle Dyson, Robert Knight, Lisa Mathieson, Kevin McGuire, Amy Webb, Jayde Westaby), 20 talented local ensemble from Shanghai as well as a 43 piece orchestra.
The concerts will run from the 23rd September - 9th October 2011.
The show is being directed by Paul Warwick Griffin, choreographed by Ashley Wallen, designed by Andrew Botha, conducted by Bjorn Dobbelaere and musically supervised by Stephen Brooker.
