Girl From the North Country

GWB Entertainment, Damien Hewitt, Sydney Festival and State Theatre Company of South Australia collaborated to present the Broadway and West End smash described as “Piercingly Beautiful” by The Independent and “Miraculous” by The Hollywood Reporter.

Girl From The North Country opened January 2022 at the newly restored Theatre Royal Sydney as part of 2022 Sydney Festival, before traveling to Adelaide.

Since opening at The Old Vic in London, Girl From the North Country has taken the theatrical world by storm, selling out seasons in the West End, Toronto, Public Theater New York and on Broadway, and is now one of the most critically acclaimed new productions of the 21st Century. Written and directed by multi award-winner Conor McPherson the legendary songs of Bob Dylan are boldly reimagined, like you've never heard them before.

An uplifting and joyful story of American life in 1934 Minnesota, where a group of wanderers cross paths at a guesthouse. Standing at a turning point in their lives, they realise nothing is what it seems, but as they search for a future, and hide from the past, they find themselves facing unspoken truths about the present.

Starring home-grown favourites Lisa McCune (The King and I, South Pacific), Zahra Newman (The Book of Mormon, Wentworth), Terence Crawford (Escape From Pretoria, 1984) and Helen Dallimore (Wicked, Legally Blonde) this is the must-see event of the Sydney Festival and State Theatre Company of South Australia season.

As Dylan himself wrote, “May your heart always be joyful. May your song always be sung.”
